This past weekend, I hosted my first AI conference for this year alongside Rayhan from Memorial HS. Following an intro from Mr. Scott, we spoke about our ISM I experiences in machine learning, and formed breakout rooms to generate ML ideas for challenges Rayhan wrote out beforehand. Each group sent a representative to present their ideas, and they did a stellar job. Afterwards, we networked for around 30 minutes and left to enjoy the rest of our Saturdays. I helped arrange the conference, but it still served as a great opportunity for me to connect with students across the district and build connections with other students interested in machine learning.
In other news, I have a general grasp of what I want to pursue this year in ISM 2. In my first semester, I plan to build an accurate translator for my mother-tongue, Sindhi, which isn’t supported by popular platforms like Google Translate. Next semester, I hope to pursue bioinformatics again, in the form of analyzing data sequencing using ML. I'm looking to interview at least 2 possible mentors in the coming weeks of September.
Outside of ISM, my courseload is starting to increase, mainly because of Calculus and Physics. I've started my DECA project with Suhan for this year, and am starting to attend my robotics meetings more often as we approach build season. I received my official letter informing me that I am now a National Merit Semifinalist! It's amazing news, but right now it feels like another essay on the growing pile of work needed for college applications.
