This week, I contacted as many people as possible to interview, and I finally got an interview scheduled. This Friday, I have an interview with Mr. Satyarth Poppasani, who is a Machine Learning Engineer at Michaels. I’m really looking forward to my first interview, especially since he seems to have mentored other ISM students and knows what to expect out of this process. I can’t get complacent though, as I have only contacted about ⅓ of the people I need to for my Contact Log, so I will be connecting with talent acquisition managers on LinkedIn. Last week, I thought it would be interesting to call the IBM Human Resources department, and surprisingly, someone was bored enough to pick up. I waited for 15 minutes, while this person looked through the employee database to look for people I could interview. Finally, he found a Machine Learning Engineer in Austin, TX, and I was forwarded to a new number. Unfortunately, this person did not pick up, and I left him a voicemail, to which he did not respond. Even though the engineer didn’t pick up, I learned a valuable lesson: everything is worth a shot, even if it seems unreachable. The kind man who picked up my call didn’t have to help me; he could have cut the call and continued doing something important to him. Instead, he helped out a random high school kid who wanted to interview an employee at IBM, a tech giant. In other news, The business symposium is on Saturday, and I’m looking forward to interacting with other ISM students across the district, along with practicing my professional skills, and building connections with the professionals at the event.
